Former Arsenal defender Paul Merson isn't confident about the Gunners chances in the FA Cup and believes Arsene Wenger could cost them success in the competition by not taking the trophy seriously enough.

The Gunners have won two FA Cup crowns in the past three years, ending their nine-year trophy drought with victory at Wembley over Hull City in 2014, but Merson is expecting a flurry of changes to be made for Monday night's trip to non-league Sutton United.

Arsenal are huge favourites to overcome the minnows in the fifth-round but Merson feels the non-league side present a big banana skin for Wenger's men, who could make as many as ten changes for the clash. Writing in The Daily Star, he said:

'They’ve (Arsenal) got a real banana skin in Sutton United, who are flying in the competition. I trained with the Sutton players this week for a piece on Sky. I could have given them some tips but after watching Arsenal get humiliated by Bayern Munich, they don’t need any help from me!'

'Arsenal should blow them away. If it was a boxing match, it wouldn’t be allowed to go ahead. But even though this is the only trophy he’s really got to go for, Arsene Wenger could easily make 10 changes.'

'You just don’t know with Arsenal. It’s a massive football match, after what happened in Munich, and it would be an absolute disaster if they lose it.'

Wenger will likely rest the big guns for the clash with Sutton, with Alexis Sanchez flying to Barcelona for a court case, but you'd expect the Gunners to still have enough talent to seal a spot in the quarter-finals.
