Monaco now lead to race to sign Fernando Torres from Chelsea after rumours suggest they are open to meeting the club’s huge £20million demand, Metro reports.
With Atletico Madrid not willing to pay such a high price for the 30-year-old who the Blues spent £50million on, they could turn their interest elsewhere as they continue their search for a replacement to Diego Costa.
Diego Simeone’s side have failed to reach an agreement in recent weeks and it looks as though Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim is likely to take over negotiations to land the former Atletico front man.
The Ligue-1 side recently received a hefty profit from their £63million sale of World Cup star James Rodriguez to Real Madrid, adding to their already wealthy transfer war-chest.
They could also lose the likes of Radamel Falcao, hence the need for another attacking option with Torres being targeted as favourites to take over in that role.
