Monaco have stepped ahead of Liverpool in their chase to sign former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, Express reports.
According to bookmakers, the Ligue-1 side have moved ahead of AC Milan, Liverpool, and Real Madrid to sign Cole on a free transfer this summer.
The Englishman decided to call it time playing for Chelsea and it was expected he would follow Frank Lampard in switching for an MLS club.
But bookies have tipped Cole to sign with Monaco at 8/11, compared to that of LA Galaxy’s 6/1.
Other odds for a club signing Cole are Liverpool 7/2, while Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan are at 18/1 for the former Arsenal man.
Chelsea did not want to offer Cole more than a one year contract, even though the left-back believed he still has a lot to offer his side.
The Blues however look likely to land Atletico defender Filipe Luis along with team-mate Diego Costa.
The two are not even Chelsea’s only targets at the Madrid club, as they are also keen on bringing back goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from his loan spell.
