A move to the English top-flight has long been mooted for the Napoli frontman but so far nothing has come to fruition with clubs unwilling to meet the reported £54 million release clause in his contract.

However, after allow Mario Balotelli to leave the Etihad Stadium to sign for AC Milan on Tuesday, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is believed to be pondering a stunning deadline day swoop for the 25-year-old Uruguayan to replace the enigmatic Italian.

Chelsea are also known to be long-term suitors of Cavani, who expressed is happiness with life in Naples, but urged his admirers to move quickly and not be discouraged by the price tag on his head.

"‘If a club has a clear project and they want to focus on me, they can’t be frightened in front of this figure," he said.

‘For now, I’m not thinking about [my future]. Then it will be up to the club to take into consideration what should be done. I am happy here. Napoli have given me a lot and I am trying to repay them. We’ll talk about it."
