Rafael Benitez is planning a move that would see him reunited with Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata at Napoli, according to the Daily Mirror.
Former Chelsea boss Benitez, is ready to swoop for the Spaniard after his frustrations with Jose Mourinho boiled over on New Years Day following his substitution against Southampton.
Reports suggest Napoli representatives made contact with Chelsea less than 24 hours after Mourinho had claimed the ‘door is open’ should Mata be looking to move on.
Sources close to Mata claim he will not look to force a move this January, despite falling behind Brazilian Oscar in the pecking order.
The former Valencia man will only look to force a move if it is made clear he has no future at Stamford Bridge.
But Benitez – who made Mata the cornerstone of his Chelsea side last season – is confident he can persuade the 25-year-old that his future lies in Serie A.
Serie A rivals Juventus and Inter Milan are also understood to be interested – with the latter considering offering Colombian midfielder and reported Chelsea target Fredy Gaurin in part exchange.
French champions Paris St Germain are also interested in the £30million rated star, whilst both Manchester United and Liverpool would love to keep him in the Premier League, however Chelsea will not consider selling to a direct rival.
