New Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck believes that his new club can help England the same way Barcelona and Bayern Munich do for Spain and Germany, Daily Star reports.
Welbeck was signed from rivals Manchester United for £16million on deadline day, and insists the Gunners’ English core can be a success for the club and the national side.
The Three Lions beat Norway 1-0 in a lacklustre friendly, but the 23-year-old thinks they can improve towards a bright future.
“It is going to be a massive positive for us,” he said.
“We will be seeing each other every single day and you obviously develop a much better understanding if you are working with one another on a consistent basis, that is something that will definitely benefit the England team.”
“There is definitely competition and I think once you come to a big club, there is always going to be competition.
“Unfortunately there are a couple of injuries at the moment but I think once everyone is fighting fit.
“Everybody will want to be on the pitch scoring goals and that’s healthy competition for the squad.”
The Arsenal players all vying for a place in the England setup include Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Alex-Oxlande Chamberlain, and Calum Chambers.
