Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse is set to miss the start of next season after undergoing surgery on a fractured knee this week, as reported by the club’s official site.

Cisse was stretched off in the Toon’s 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea last month and will now be out for around four months, depending on rehabilitation.

Already short on strikers, Alan Pardew now has serious need to go out and buy in the summer with on loan pair Loic Remy and Luuk De Jong set to return to their parent clubs and Shola Ameobi out of contract.

That would leave Cisse as the club’s only first team forward, forcing owner Mike Ashley to put his hand in his pocket and spend some of the cash raised from the sale of Yohan Cabaye back in January.

The future of Pardew will need to be sorted first though and so another chaotic summer at St James’ Park is set to begin with injuries, contracts and strikers the main issues.
