Newcastle United are launching a £10million bid in the hopes of signing Montpellier forward Remy Cabella by next week, Telegraph reports.
It is reported that the attacker is keen to join Alan Pardew’s side, given the previous success of fellow French internationals Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy.
Montpellier previously turned down an £8million offer from the Magpies before the World Cup, hoping that the Frenchman’s exploits could increase his value.
However no other clubs have gone in to make an offer, which has the Newcastle hierarchy confident that they will finally sign the player they were chasing since January.
The Toon Army signed former Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa back in the winter transfer window last year, which strained relationships between the two clubs.
But Cabella has his eye set on a move to Tyneside, with the French outfit resigned to losing their star player.
Newcastle are also chasing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who is valued at £10million.
Cabella had a career high 14 goals in 41 appearances last season.
