Newly promoted Leicester City are set to snap up England midfielder Gareth Barry on a free transfer, according to the The Sun.

Barry was mightily impressive on loan at Everton last season but a permanent switch to Goodison Park has been delayed due to differences in opinion on the contract offer.

West Ham made a move for the former Manchester City star who is now of contract at the Etihad and is one of the most sought after free transfers in Europe.

The Hammers it seems have been beaten to the signature by ambitious Leicester who have promised fans that they are not just in the big time to battle at the wrong end of the table.

In fact – the owners have declared that Europe is a possibility within the next four years and that they are not afraid to put their hand in their pockets to achieve that.

Barry would be a superb signing for the Foxes as they look to strengthen, but Everton are not going to lie down and take this – with boss Roberto Martinez wanting to sort Barry’s future before the World Cup.
