Manchester United and Chelsea are on red alert for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, whose representatives have been in London, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Uruguayan hit-man is said to be considering a summer transfer, despite having only signed for the Ligue 1 champions in a £50m deal last year.

Cavani was heralded as one of European football’s finest marksmen while at Napoli, but has struggled to dislodge Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG.

Now he is understood to be ready to leave, and has instructed his agent to find him a new club.

Interest in his services is high, with Chelsea and United two of many clubs keen to offer him an escape route.

His representatives were known to have been in the English capital yesterday, with discussing a possible move to one of the big clubs on the agenda.

The Blues were interested in Cavani during 2013, and Jose Mourinho is believed to have made him one of three possible centre-forward targets for the end of the season.

United are also in the race, as David Moyes sets about continuing his rebuild at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old is set to partner Liverpool’s Luis Suarez at the World Cup in a fearsome strike force.
