Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp was left gutted after Aston Villa sunk the knife into Rangers’ relegation fears.

QPR let a 1-0 lead slip to suffer a fatal defeat at Villa Park that leaves the West London side seven points adrift of safety going into the final eight games of the season.

A late Christian Benteke goal resigned Rangers to another away defeat that could end their hopes of Premier League survival despite Redknapp’s desperate acts in the January transfer window.

Former Spurs duo Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend seemed to give QPR hope midway through the second half but Villa had too much for the leagues bottom side and the Midlands club pulled clear of the bottom three.

QPR boss Redknapp was understandably downbeat about his sides’ chances of surviving this season as he looks at yet another relegation and more self-inflicted financial trouble.

“It’s a massive blow for us,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“We probably need to win five games now which is tough, it won’t be easy.

“It was always a tough job when I took over but it’s not impossible, you’ve got to keep going.

“We can’t just suddenly give up and feel sorry for ourselves, we have to keep trying and keep going and see if we can turn it around.”
