Harry Redknapp is aiming to pull off the double signing of Peter Crouch and Christopher Samba before the transfer window closes, BBC Sport understands.

The QPR boss is eager to strengthen his attacking arsenal before Thursday's deadline and admits he is contemplating a move for Crouch after working with him previously at Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham.

The 31-year-old also spent a small portion of his early career at Loftus Road but Redknapp concedes it will be difficult to entice Stoke into selling the former England international.

He also foresees a struggle to persuade ex-Blackburn defender Samba, viewed as Ryan Nelsen's replacement, to swap Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala for a move to west London but hinted that anything is possible in the January sales.

"These are two players whose names have been mentioned but at the moment we're not close to doing anything," Redknapp said.

"Crouch's name came up in a meeting with the chairman but I don't think Stoke want to sell him."

"On Samba, again the chairman is dealing with this. At this stage I don't think that's a goer.

"I like Christopher Samba and he is a very good player but at this stage I don't see him leaving Russia," he added. "Things can change but at this stage we're not close to doing anything."

Redknappp has already signed Marseille frontman Loic Remy from under the noses of Newcastle this month for a club record £8 million and is reportedly close to obtaining a work permit for South Korea left-back Yun-Suk Young.
