The Super Hoops were believed to be in pole position for his signature in recent weeks, despite rumoured interest from Tottenham.
But, the 22-year-old has spurned supposed attention from the Premier League to move to the Russian giants, penning a four-and-a-half year contract.
An official statement from Rennes read:
“Stade Rennais, FC Rubin Kazan and Yann M’Vila have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of the French international,
“After the traditional medical visit, the Rennes midfielder joined the Russian club officially on Wednesday evening.”
QPR boss Harry Redknapp was hopeful of adding M’Vila, who is currently serving an international ban which will last until 2014, to his squad in a bid to keep the Londoners clear of relegation.
He may now turn his attention for fellow Frenchman Moussa Sissoko.
The Toulouse man is rumoured to be available at a knockdown fee of around £3m this month, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The Loftus Road side will face competition in the shape of Aston Villa and Newcastle as well as a host of Ligue 1 clubs for his signature.
