Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is set to challenge Newcastle United for the signing of Frenchman Loic Remy according to The Independent.

Newcastle have already bid for the Marseille striker who is valued at around £12million, but Rangers are hoping to hijack the deal to solve their own striker crisis.

Redknapp has already missed out on Joe Cole this month and is seemingly set to miss out on other targets but Remy would be a key addition to their struggling squad.

The 26-year-old has now got a big decision to make but the Toon are desperate to bring in a forward after losing Demba Ba to Chelsea who notched twice on his debut yesterday.

Redknapp had both DJ Campbell and Jay Bothroyd in his Hoops squad for the FA Cup 1-1 draw with West Brom yesterday after their Championship loan spells and Bobby Zamora is close to a return.

However, a lack of goals has been an issue for the struggling Rangers but Remy may be the solution.
