Real Madrid are looking to sign Chelsea’s Ashley Cole when his contract expires this summer, Mirror reports.
The English left back has fallen down the Blue’s pecking order and could be signed on a one-year deal worth £3.5m.
The Spanish giants are set to lose Fabio Coentrao this summer and have made a move for Cole as his potential replacement.
The former Arsenal man becomes a free agent after the season concludes and could see Real Madrid as the next big step in his successful career.
With Cesar Azpilicueta now the number one left-back choice at Stamford Bridge, the 33-year-old has been sweating for a place in this year’s World Cup squad and is clearly frustrated with his situation.
He did however start in the Blue’s 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid in last night’s UEFA Champions League semi-final tie, but it was due to Branislav Ivanovic’s suspension which forced Azpilicueta to right back.
Along with Cole, Frank Lampard and captain John Terry are out of contract at the end of the season.
All three players are in talks with the club, but Real’s interest might be too good an opportunity for Cole to turn down.
