European champions Real Madrid are considering a loan move for Manchester United starlet Guillermo Varela, talkSPORT reports.
The Uruguayan defender joined the Red Devils from Uruguayan club Penarol a year ago, but could now make a shock switch to Real Madrid this summer.
According to Italian source TMW, Los Blancos are looking to bring the right-back on a season-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
Despite not making a single appearance for United since his arrival, it has been suggested that Real are willing to pay £4million to make Varela a permanent back-up for first choice right-back Daniel Carvajal next year.
With United squad thin from a host of injuries, manager Louis van Gaal won’t be keen to let go of another player unless the Red Devils manage to bring in a few signings before the transfer window closes.
United have already agreed on a £60million fee – which could rise to £72million – for Real’s Angel di Maria, and are also still hot in pursuit of Dutch duo Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong.
