Real Madrid are preparing to test Manchester United’s resolve to keep hold of Wayne Rooney, by making an offer of £25million for the striker in the summer, according to the Telegraph.
Manchester United remain desperate to keep hold of the 28-year-old, who has just 18 months remaining on his current contract.
However Real Madrid believe they can tempt him to the Spanish capital at the end of the season, and see the England striker as a more attainable than first choice target Sergio Aguero.
Rooney’s failure to commit himself to a new deal at Old Trafford has given Real hope of completing a move that would see the forward reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo once more.
Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero remains the first choice target for Real, but neither City nor the Argentine have offered any encouragement that a deal can be completed.
Aguero only signed a new contract at the Etihad last May, which ended any hopes of Real tempting him to the Bernabeu last summer.
City’s subsequent emergence as a European force has made Real turn their attentions elsewhere, with Rooney believed to be on a short list of striker targets that includes Monaco’s Radamel Falcao and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
