Manchester United have been boosted in their attempts to sign Angel di Maria with Real Madrid putting the winger up for sale, Express reports.
Di Maria had an outstanding campaign last season with the Madrid club but has been made available due to the £63million signing of Colombian star James Rodriguez from Monaco.
United manager Louis van Gaal has been linked with a move for the Argentine for some time, and believes a £40million bid is enough to bring Di Maria to Old Trafford.
Los Blancos have also purchased German star Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich for £20million, making Di Maria surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
And it is reported that the Red Devils will up their interest for the former Benfica star after their pre-season tour in the USA.
Recently executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward stated he will spend as much as necessary in order to land the right players.
United however have stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who has reportedly agreed personal terms with Di Maria.
Manchester United had a great start in the pre-season preparations, defeating LA Galaxy 7-0 in the opening fixture of the Chevrolet Cup.
