Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out the possibility of midfielder Xabi Alonso leaving the club in January, as reported by FourFourTwo.
Liverpool are set to make a move for their former star who is out of contract in the summer and has thus far failed to agree a new deal in the Spanish capital.
Madrid are in contact with the 32 year old to ensure he is still their player come the start of next season but regular first team football is not guaranteed.
Liverpool would jump at the chance to bring Alonso back, with his partnership with Steven Gerrard one of the greatest in Premier League history.
However, Ancelotti doesn’t expect any of his first team squad to leave the club this winter.
“No players are leaving and we aren’t going to sign anyone. The market is closed for us,” Ancelotti said in Spanish newspaper Marca.
He added: “I think we’ll find a solution to Xabi Alonso’s situation and both club and player will reach an agreement.”
