Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is hoping to bring Barcelona forward David Villa to the Etihad Stadium in January according to the Daily Star.

Villa has been unable to break back into the Barcelona side since returning from long term injury and it seems a number of clubs are interested in signing the former Valencia striker.

Chelsea and Swansea are both keen on a January move as well as a host of other European clubs but Barcelona are yet to decide if they want to sell the 31-year-old or simply loan him out for six months.

Spain’s record goalscorer formed a superb partnership with David Silva while the pair were at Valencia and with current strikers Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko struggling for form, the deal could be a season changer for Mancini.

Villa’s arrival could see the end of Mario Balotelli’s time in Manchester with AC Milan the likely destination for the controversial Italian.
