Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is looking to go against doctors’ advice and play injured during the World Cup, Metro reports.

Ronaldo received a knee injury in training recently and while doctors are doing their best to nurse the problem, they fear the Ballon D’or winner will not play again in the competition.

But Ronaldo, who is yet to win an international competition, is extremely desperate to be involved and could use pain-killers in order to continue, even if it meant cutting his career short.

Reports from Spain suggested that his personal doctors advised the 29-year-old that playing again in the coming days will risk ending his football livelihood.

It is possible that Ronaldo could damage his tendons beyond any possible repair if he enters the field in Portugal’s next World Cup game against the USA.

However the former Manchester United man is adamant he will feature, stating to his medics: “I’m the one that says whether I’m playing or not.”

Ronaldo was inspirational last season in Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph, scoring 51 goals in all competitions.
