Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has demanded an instant response from his teammates after Wednesday nights defeat to Everton, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The Manchester United player-coach was part of the side that went down to a 1-0 defeat against David Moyes's former club, a result that left them 12 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

They currently sit ninth in the Premier League table with a tally of 22 point from 14 games - incidentally their worst total since the 2001-2002 season, where they went on to finish third, ten points off eventual winners Arsenal.

But Giggs is demanding the players pick themselves up quickly, and insists there is still plenty of time to make up the 12 point gap.

"We have to pick ourselves up," said Giggs.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves for too long. We have a home game against Newcastle on Saturday and hopefully we will get a different result.

"We were on a pretty good run. We just have to get over this disappointment now and get on another."

United once again failed to take a hatful of chances on Wednesday night, and were eventually punished with a late goal. Whilst this has been a huge cause of concern over the season, Giggs is refusing to panic.

"The gap is bridgeable," .

"Hopefully we can start picking up points again but we will get a better idea come the new year.

"We have had a few disappointing results over the last couple of weeks.

"The performances haven't been that bad. Maybe we are just not getting the rub of the green or taking our chances when we should.

"It is the story of a few games this season. When we have been on top we have not taken our chances. If you do that in this league you are going to get punished."
