Roma president James Pallotta has come out to clarify that his £20million striker Mattia Destro will definitely not be leaving the Serie A this summer, denting any transfer hopes for Arsenal and Chelsea, Metro reports.
Jose Mourinho is very likely to lose his third striker of the summer after Fernando Torres is edging closer to a season-long loan move to AC Milan.
Demba Ba has also left to join Besiktas, while Samuel Eto’o played out his contract and has now signed for Everton.
With an injury scare to new signing Diego Costa, the Blues now only have club legend Didier Drogba fully fit for their upcoming match at the weekend.
The Gunners face a similar problem as Arsene Wenger has been considering Destro as a potential replace for Olivier Giroud who will miss the rest of the year with a fractured ankle.
However, the Roma president insisted that the 23-year-old Italian forward is not for sale and will not be departing the side.
“Destro is absolutely not for sale and never has been,” Pallotta said.
“We receive offers continually, because he’s a great player, but we have no intention of selling him.
“He’ll stay 100 per cent and we close an excellent transfer market.”
