This weekend really does put the world of football into perspective, with the tragic events of Hillsborough still fresh in memories of football fans after 25 years. Any follower of the English game knows the terrible fate that befell 96 innocent Liverpool fans during their side’s FA Cup semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest, and this act from Wednesday – whose stadium played host to the game – is a truly heartfelt one. 96 seats have been turned white and adorned with personalised red roses on the front row of the West Stand, while the matchday programme’s front cover is also dedicated to the event . Sometimes it’s nice to remember that there is still some compassion in the beautiful game.
