Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out the possibility of the club selling defender Luke Shaw.

Reports yesterday suggested that Chelsea were lining up a £20million bid for the impressive 18 year old in January.

However, Pochettino confirms that Southampton will not be selling one of their best players at any price even if the countries big boys come calling.

Shaw has been in fine form this season and is now a regular at St Mary’s as well as for England under-21’s.

As well as Jose Mourinho, plenty of other clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal have shown an interest in Shaw but with very little financial worry and an improving team on the pitch, Southampton do need to sell a large asset.

“They can show their interest,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“That’s not something we control.

“But in this individual case he is not a player we are willing to sell. In a sporting manner, he is not for sale.”

Chelsea may well still make a move for the left back with Ashley Cole in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
