Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has come out to try and halt a move for Morgan Schneiderlin with Tottenham Hotspur forced to wait on his situation.
It was believed he was going to leave the club, just like Luke Shaw, who left to Manchester United, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert, who joined Liverpool, and most recently Calum Chambers, who made the switch to Arsenal.
Despite Schneiderlin trying to force a move out, Koeman is standing strong on his intentions to keep the 24-year-old central midfielder in the squad.
The Dutch boss told SkySPORTS: “It’s the decision of the board but I don’t talk about it. He’s a player at Southampton and he will continue as a player at Southampton.
“But I don’t like to talk about that situation. I spoke to Morgan two days ago and he is still not in the shape to play a friendly at this level. He needs more training sessions. If he’s ready he will play.
“Normally he will play next week against Bayer Leverkusen [Southampton’s final pre-season friendly].”
