Southampton star not thinking of World Cup just yet

Southampton defender Luke Shaw is keeping his feet firmly on the floor after his maiden England call up this week, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Shaw was pictured receiving an emotional phone call on Wednesday when Roy Hodgson named the youngster in his squad to face Denmark this week.

Competition is rife for the left back slot in the Three Lions set up with Leighton Baines and Ashely Cole seemingly the first two choice; however Shaw has played his way into the reckoning and is the form player at present.

The 18 year old is focussing on enjoying his call up for now and not thinking about the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

‘I have no eyes on the World Cup,’ Shaw said.

‘I will just see what happens this week with the training. If I get a chance, I get a chance. I think it is just going to be a good experience and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.

“Stevie (Gerrard) just had a little word after just to congratulate me and say “I will see you tomorrow”.

‘For me, it is great for the England captain to say something like that.”
