Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is interested in a switch to join Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger will need to pay £24 million up-front before completing his £35 million move, Mirror reports.
It is believed that the Gunners have already made an offer of monthly payments to bring the Portuguese international to the Emirates, but his club rejected the offer in bids to force a straight up cash transaction.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has a £35 million buy-out clause in his current contract with the side and would only allow negotiations to begin if Wenger can pay the proposed initial fee.
After failing to secure a move for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, Carvalho is seen as the next likely candidate to fill the club’s defensive midfield position ahead of the new season.
Having just secure a £33 million move for Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez, it is still unsure whether the London club are willing to go on another huge spending spree.
