Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has admitted it is tough to prepare for next season with their Premier League safety up in the air, as reported by The Journal.

The Black Cats are still sitting in the bottom three but have games in hand on their rivals, making Poyet’s pre-season plans impossible to predict.

Sunderland face fellow strugglers Norwich at Carrow Road today and defeat for either side could be critical.

Poyet knows he will need to start planning for next season soon, but not knowing which division the club will be in makes his life even tougher.

“I have to plan for next season somehow. We have started with pre-season and slowly with the friendlies, with the dates and the programme of the season,” he said.

“At the moment we have not touched the Championship one. We are trying to be very positive and believe we are going to make it, but it is difficult and all of the teams are in the same position. Slowly we have started, we cannot wait. Otherwise you would not be ready.”
