Sunderland are thought to be the frontrunners to sign free agent Louis Saha according to Mirror Football.

The French forward signed for Tottenham on a short-term deal in January, but was released by the White Hart Lane side this summer as they look for younger attackers.

The journeyman striker is said to be keen to remain in the Premier League, despite interest from clubs in the Middle East, and Sunderland are weighing up a move for him.

Martin O’Neill wants to start to make the Black Cats squad his own, and is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer.

Top of his wishlist is a new forward, as loanee Nicklas Bendtner was sent back to Arsenal at the culmination of the 2011-12 campaign, leaving the Bantams short of attacking options.

O’Neill is thought to be confident of bringing Saha to the Stadium of Light, with wages the only stumbling block over a potential deal.
