Sunderland have agreed a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld, who is also a target for Arsenal, West Ham, and Southampton, talkSPORT reports.
According to sources from Belgium, the Blacks cats have come to an agreement over a season-long loan for the Belgium international.
Alderweireld has been a target for many Premier League clubs, with Southampton boss Ronald Koeman previously in talks to bring the 25-year-old to the Saint Mary’s.
However it seems Sunderland have emerged as Alderweireld’s most likely destination after beating their rivals to an agreement with Atletico.
Black Cats boss Gus Poyet has offered to take the former Ajax star on loan, with the option to make the deal permanent in a year’s time.
Now the Wearside club have to sort out personal terms with the player, in which Alderweireld will have the final say whether he makes the Premier League switch or continue fighting for a place with the La Liga champions.
Arsenal are also hoping to sign the centre-back before the end of the transfer window after seeing Kostas Manolas snub the Gunners for a move to AS Roma.
