Manchester United’s Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, and Tom Cleverley are anxiously waiting clarification over their Old Trafford futures, Manchester Evening News reports.
New United manager Louis van Gaal is set to overhaul the current Red Devils squad and has previously stated only four players are safe from the axe next season.
With United’s attack considered adequate and core defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic already departing, it seems that Van Gaal’s midfield is set for a major change.
Winger Antonio Valencia has however recently penned a new deal, but it is the central midfield trio of Carrick, Fletcher, and Cleverley that are eager to know their futures with their contracts all ending next summer.
Manchester United suffered immensely under David Moyes last term, as the Red Devils ended at seventh place, their lowest ever Premier League finish.
This has caused United to be linked with a strong set of star midfielders including Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, Roma’s Kevin Strootman, and German star Bastian Schweinsteiger, amongst others.
Carrick, Fletcher, and Cleverley will all be worried by these rumours as their contract negotiations edge closer.
It is expected talks will begin once Van Gaal returns from his Dutch World Cup duties.
