Manchester United have been hit with a triple blow as Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, and Jonny Evans will likely miss the season opener against Swansea with injuries.
The trio did not feature in Man United narrow 2-1 friendly win over La Liga side Valencia and is also set to be sidelined this weekend.
And according to the BBC, new £27million signing Luke Shaw has been ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring problem.
Shaw is United’s only first choice left-back after Patrice Evra’s switch to Serie A champions Juventus, which could mean either one of Ashley Young or 20-year-old youngster Reece James will deputise in his absence.
On the other side, Valencia’s injury is also of big concern to Van Gaal, as second choice right-back Rafael da Silva is already out with a groin strain.
The three injuries will add further complication to the team that starts on Sunday, as Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck are already known absentees from this weekend’s clash with Swansea.
More from Louis van Gaal on the injured trio of Evans, Shaw and Valencia: “We have to wait to see if they can play on Saturday.” #REUTD14
