Tottenham won for the second game in succession as first half goals from Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale proved enough to see off rejuvenated Liverpool at White Hart Lane.

Spurs had beaten West Ham to end a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats to ease the pressure on manager Andre Villas-Boas and produced another dazzling display to retain stay in touch with the top-four.

Brendan Rodgers had also overseen an upturn in form, guiding the Reds to a seven game unbeaten league run to lift the club away from the foot of the table after a rough start to life at Anfield.

But his side were unable to cope with the hosts vibrancy in the opening 45 minutes with Bale shining brightest, forcing Pepe Reina into a clumsy save from a free kick before lashing just wide soon after.

The Wales winger's next forage forward would produce a goal as he sped down the left flank and sent over a precision cross that Lennon gleefully converted his first goal of the season at the back post.

And nine minutes later Bale deservedly got his name on the scoresheet with a free kick that found the net after Reina failed to  judge the flight of the ball on its way into the net.

Luis Suarez had the away sides best chance of the half, flicking the ball towards goal after Hugo Lloris has thwarted Steven Gerrard, only for Kyle Walker to deny the Uruguayan by stopping his effort from finding the net.

Jose Enrique went close midway through the second half with a shot that was deflected wide, before the Reds finally made the breakthrough when Bale indadvertedly headed into his own net after Lennon clearance Gerrard's goal bound header off the line hit him.
