jermain-defoeTottenham ran riot at a rain soaked this afternoon, with a 9-1 victory against Wigan Athletic.

The win took Tottenham back in the Champions League places, but it was the manner of it that will have shocked most neutrals today. scored 5 goals in 36 second half minutes and the quality of his finishes would certainly have impressed the watching Fabio Capello.

also impressed throughout and with a goal and three assists to his name to mark his return from injury providing another reminder to the England boss of the wide man’s abilities and what a handful he can be on his day.

singled out the Tottenham No.7 for special praise and felt that nobody could handle him and on the wings today:

“He’s a fantastic talent. Eric Edman was a good player at Tottenham, did a great job here and he is a good player but he had a difficult day today with Aaron.

“But anybody would have had a hard day today when he’s in that type of form.

on the other side was absolutely fantastic as well today. I felt the skill, the ability, the passing, everything he did today. He deserved that goal at the end because I thought he was magnificent.” (SkySports)

, and a completed the rout in what is the second highest ever score in Premier League history.

The only travesty for Spurs that afternoon was that David Bentley had his goal struck off & given to Kirkland as an OG. This has to be changed & Bentley has to be awarded the goal his sublime free-kick deserves. Please go here:

& sign the petition to get goal marked down as David Bentley’s. Thank you for your support
