Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise move for West Brom striker Shane Long in January, according to the Sunday People.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has refused to give new boss Tim Sherwood a hefty transfer kitty after forking out more than £100million in the summer on new, mainly failed, acquisitions.

Despite recouping a lot of cash in the summer with the sales of Gareth Bale, Steven Caulker and Tom Huddlestone, Levy is struggling to trust Sherwood with major funds and so a cut price deal for Long is set to be the outcome.

The West Brom striker is out of contract in the summer and is yet to even open discussions over a new deal with no new manager in place at the Hawthorns yet, despite it being nearly a month since Steve Clarke was sacked.

Long was close to joining Hull in the summer and the Irish international has impressed when played this season, with a number of other clubs including West Ham, Cardiff and Sunderland showing interest.
