Striker - Jermain Defoe

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that striker Jermain Defoe is in contention to return from injury this weekend.

The pacey England striker has been absent for around a month with an ankle injury and Emmanuel Adebayor has failed to step up to the plate since returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Defoe himself has not been firing on all cilinders in this campaign but his goal threat with certainly add something extra to the on form Spurs attack.

Gareth Bale has more than filled the void of Defoe in recent weeks since moving into a more central role and his link up play could suit Defoe’s movement more than Adebayor.

Spurs face North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday in a key game for qualification for next seasons Champions League and Villas-Boas has confirmed that Defoe has been in training and is raring to go for the big game.

“Defoe has trained for the past two days and is in contention for the game,” Villas-Boas told talkSPORT.
