Tottenham have set their sights on Hannover 96 midfielder Andre Hoffman, according to talkSPORT.
Tim Sherwood claimed recently he could face the sack if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League, however it appears his scouting network have begun identifying possible signings for next season.
20-year-old Hoffman is amongst them, having impressed since breaking into the first team in 2013.
He has been capped for Germany at Under-21 level, and is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2016.
However Tottenham remain confident they can lure him to the Premier League this summer, especially should they qualify for Champions League football.
They are understood to have sent scouts to watch the youngster in action, although it is understood two clubs in Italy are also monitoring his situation.
Tottenham kept the gap between themselves and fourth placed Liverpool to three points following an emphatic 4-0 win over Newcastle at St James’s Park.
However boss Tim Sherwood insisted he is still demanding more from his in-form side.
“I’m a perfectionist. There was a spell at start of the second half when Hugo [Lloris] had to pull off some saves”, he said.
“The boys looked sharp from the start. We’ve got to keep on the tail of Liverpool. They are relentless. I hope they keep on checking over their shoulders and see Spurs are still there.”
