Tottenham Hotspur target Toby Alderweireld is still unsure over his Southampton future ahead of the upcoming window, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid, but after impressing with the Saints this season, a number of sides are now considering his services.

Manager Ronald Koeman is said to be interested in securing his signature on a permanent basis, but Atletico are considering the idea of triggering a £1.5million clause to halt his sale.

"It is difficult. He'd like to stay, we would like to keep Toby but it's not about us," he said.

Alderweireld revealed that he wants to clarify his future before being forced to go on pre-season with his parent club and then having to join another side for the upcoming campaign.

"I've had a fantastic year at Southampton and I hope to know where my future is before pre-season starts because it's two years in a row that I did a pre-season with a club and then on August 31 I left," he said.

"So I hope this time I can do a pre-season with the club that I will be playing with and have a good year."

He also added that he has three options, whether it is to remain at St Mary’s Stadium, return to Spain, or join a new club.

"The situation is frustrating and I don't know what will happen.

"I would like to make a decision, but the club has to decide first.

"There are three options - stay with Atletico, stay with Southampton or go to another club."

The Belgium international has already made 26 appearances under Koeman since arriving in the summer and is also being tracked by Manchester City.
