Arsenal have missed out on Greece defender Kostas Manolas, who signed for AS Roma to replace Bayern Munich bound Mehdi Benatia, Metro reports.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with Manolas during the past month, but despite reports of the Greek preparing for a medical, Manolas has snubbed the Emirates club for a move to Serie A.
It seems that Arsenal were unable to come to an agreement in the former Olympiacos star’s personal terms, which has seen Manolas announced as Roma’s latest signing last night.
Manolas was brought in on a five-year contract by the Italian club to replace Benatia, who had a brilliant season with Roma before becoming a subject of interest for Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
The Moroccan defender also rejected a move to the Premier League, this time to Bundesliga champions Bayern in a £30million deal.
This has come as a big blow for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is still looking for a centre-back to replace the departed Thomas Vermaelen as well as a striker to cover for injured Olivier Giroud.
