Arsenal have missed out on Greece defender Kostas Manolas, who signed for AS Roma to replace Bayern Munich bound Mehdi Benatia, Metro reports.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with Manolas during the past month, but despite reports of the Greek preparing for a medical, Manolas has snubbed the Emirates club for a move to Serie A.

It seems that Arsenal were unable to come to an agreement in the former Olympiacos star’s personal terms, which has seen Manolas announced as Roma’s latest signing last night.

Manolas was brought in on a five-year contract by the Italian club to replace Benatia, who had a brilliant season with Roma before becoming a subject of interest for Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.

The Moroccan defender also rejected a move to the Premier League, this time to Bundesliga champions Bayern in a £30million deal.

This has come as a big blow for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is still looking for a centre-back to replace the departed Thomas Vermaelen as well as a striker to cover for injured Olivier Giroud.

So Typical of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal. So much of thinking and thinking about the pros and cons for so many years , still we are not able to deal with the likes of Chelsea , Manchester U and City , and now we have to add Liverpool and Everton to this list. Year in Year Out we face the same problem of lack in central and defensive midfield and last year it was in Striker position but we will never be cured of this ailment and we will never be able to beat the likes as named above because we just do not give ourselves the means to do it. We know we needed Khedira or Carvallo or any other defensive Midfielder but we will let the chance go. Just like Manolas is gone in the name of a few millions. I sometimes ask myself what stops us. Look at As Roma, they sold Benatia and bought Manolas on the same day. And Arsenal is a better team than Roma. This is a crucial moment and if the coach do not bring in Carvallo and a Central defender our beloved Arsenal will not be able take this challenge. I am afraid we can be doomed earlier than the last few years. And we will remember that the coach sold Carlos Vela, Vermalen , Fabiansdki and Sagna and loaned Jenkinson and refused to buy back Fabregas.
