Bayern Munich are set to sign top Manchester United and Chelsea defensive target Mehdi Benatia from Roma, The Guardian reports.
Both Premier League clubs were said to be monitoring his situation as the pair of them were prepared to offer upwards of £30million, a fee the Serie A giants have placed on their star centre-back.
However, their chase looks to have ended after Bayern confirmed on their official website that Benatia is going to do a club medical in the next few days before confirming his switch with a new five-year contract.
“On Tuesday afternoon the German champions reached an agreement with Roma over the transfer of Mehdi Benatia. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.
“Benatia will come to Munich in the next few days to undergo a medical. The central defender will then sign a five-year contract.”
The 27-year-old defender was a top target for a host of European clubs due to his impressive display for the Italian side as he helped them finish second in the league last season.
