Vidal was a major doubt for Chile prior to a World Cup with injury, but recovered to impress Man United manager Louis van Gaal who was keen on his services.

The 27-year-old’s agent Fernando Felicevich was expecting to hold talks with Red Devil representatives after concluding the deal for Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal.

However the Old Trafford club are understood to value Vidal a few million less than that of Juventus, which has caused an end to negotiations.

Vidal is currently on holiday in Chile, in which he was asked whether a United move was possible, he replied: “I've heard about the rumours, but I haven't spoken more about this subject.

“I'm enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I'll see what happens. Anyone would like to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
