Both Chelsea and Arsenal have been given huge hints at a potential move for Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic after Pep Guardiola left him out of the German Cup final, Express reports.
News out of the Bayern camp suggest that Guardiola told Mandzukic that he wouldn’t feature in the German Cup final before wishing him a farewell by saying: “Good luck at your new club.”
The Croatian striker has had a great season – being his team’s top scorer with 18 goals – despite having a strained relationship with the former Barcelona manager.
When Guardiola was asked about why the player was left out of the cup final squad, he replied with: “The fact that Mandzu is not in the squad is my decision.
“Monday and Tuesday he did not train but he’s strong, he could have played.”
With Borussia Dortmund and Bundesliga top goal scorer Robert Lewandowski joining the German champions on a free transfer at the end of the season, Mandzukic’s place in the squad will be in further jeopardy.
The 27-year-old has been on Chelsea’s and Arsenal’s transfer radar recently and after news of his imminent departure, the Premier League duo could make a concrete offer sometime in the near future.
