Negotiations between Arsenal and Manchester United were ongoing on Tuesday night, with the pair trying to conclude a deal for Robin van Persie, The Daily Mail claim.

The 2011-12 PFA Player of the Year has confirmed his intention to leave the north London club, with the Old Trafford outfit currently leading the chase for the Netherlands international.

Arsene Wenger’s men are believed to have rejected at least one approach from the Red Devils, however it is thought that United are closing in on Arsenal’s valuation of their skipper.

United are ready to offer at least £20 million for Van Persie, which Arsenal could well accept.

Manchester City and Juventus were also keen on the Dutch maestro, but the pair have since pulled out of the race and turned their attention to other targets.

Don’t know why he’s even considering United. Arsenal have a much better squad than United now. Arsenal will be fine without him because of the signings they’ve made but it would be very bad to allow United to have him. Tease them with the possibility up to the last day of the window so they don’t buy an alternative then reject the offer and dump Robin in the reserves.

its sad that arsenal fc sell there top players for such a meager sum. You need to ask yourself if the tables were turned would fergie allow rooney to leave for 20mil, they sold christiano for 80mil.all am saying is arsenal fc are suckers and always will be. Selling your top player to a rival team with similar ambitions is jus plain right ludicrous. for 20 mil only, thats jus stupid.
