Borussia Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa

Manchester United are thought to be on the verge of concluding a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa, according to The Daily Mail.

The Old Trafford outfit are keen to reinvigorate an ageing midfield this summer, and after losing out on Eden Hazard have made concluding a deal for the Japanese winger their number one priority.

Kagawa has starred for the German champions over the last number of seasons, but is in the last year of his contract at Signal Iduna Park and has rejected a new contract in Germany.

A £17 million deal is thought to be close to conclusion, with reports from Bild in Germany concurring this fact.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is also thought to be weighing up a move for Tottenham's attacking midfielder Luka Modric.

The Croatia international is one of the leading lights in a talented Spurs team, but after the north London club missed out on Champions League qualification there has been speculation over his future.

Modric has stated that his club career will be resolved after he competes in Euro 2012, but there is a train of thought that Harry Redknapp's men will struggle to hold onto their star through this transfer window.

United have been in the market for a central midfield playmaker for some time as a long-term successor to Paul Scholes, and Modric would certainly fit the bill.
