Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set to start his ruthless clear out at Old Trafford this week, with Nani, Maraoune Fellaini, Shinji Kagawa amongst those fighting for their futures, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils have added Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera to their squad this summer, and van Gaal is keen to add further additions this week.

The Dutchman knows he needs to shift some of the dead wood in order to make room however, and is set to start the clear our this week.

During the clubs successful tour of America, van Gaal admitted there would be several departures this summer.

He said: ‘I shall make judgements after this tour. ‘I have let all the players play and I know now more than before the tour.

‘Now also it is a little bit soon to judge but in football you have to judge. You have to give the player a chance to make a transfer when I see that his prospects to play are not so high.

‘You have to say it in advance because it’s too late after August 31. I will tell payers after the tour.’

Mexican forward Javier Hernandez could well be the first one to leave Old Trafford, with a move to Juventus reportedly nearing completion.

United are hopeful the sale of Hernandez will smooth over the move of Arturo Vidal in the opposite direction.
