West Brom sporting director Richard Garlick has revealed his disappointment towards Steve Clarke who was sacked last night after another defeat.

Albion have struggled this season and are now just two points above the relegation zone having lost four games in a row, three of which have been against teams they will have expected to get a result against.

Clarke’s dismissal was a shock, especially after the good work he done last season, but with crucial games coming up against relegation rivals it was clearly a decision made for short term success.

Former boss Roberto Di Matteo have been made early favourite for the job, closely followed by ex-player Martin Jol.

“With key games coming thick and fast, we felt it was important we acted now to give the Club the best possible chance of a successful outcome this season,” Director Richard Garlick told the club’s website.

“Our player wage bill is the highest in the Club’s history and we feel we have built a squad capable of being very competitive in the Premier League.”
