West Ham forward Mauro Zarate wants to become as vital to the club as compatriot Carlos Tevez was, as reported by the club’s official site.

The Argentinean became Sam Allardyce’s first signing of the summer last month in a bid to turn the side into a more attacking option.

Zarate will wear the famous number ten shirt at Upton Park next season and he is hoping to emulate the form and status of another Argentinean forward in East London.

The 27-year-old looks up to Tevez and knows it will be tough to become a hero at Upton Park but wants to try his best to get there.

“Carlos is a fantastic player and a fantastic person,” Zarate said.

“I don’t think I can do the same as he did, but I hope I can become as big a favourite at this club as he was.

“I have played with Lazio and Inter in Serie A and the Champions League and now I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League for a second time.

“I hope I will play good football and reach the highest possible level. I am very confident I am going to succeed here.

“English football is beautiful. I always said I wanted to come back to England to play and now I have this chance and I don’t want to lose this chance.”
