West Ham are lining up a surprise move for Southampton’s banned forward Dani Osvaldo, according to the Daily Mirror.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is keen to take the Saints record signing on loan for the second half of the season, after missing out on Monaco’s Lacina Traore and despite completing the loan signing of Roma’s Marco Borriello on Saturday.
Southampton are keen to offload Osvaldo this month, after the Italian head-butted teammate Jose Fonte following a training ground row last week.
Allardyce had previously been hoping to lure Rickie Lambert from St Mary’s, but Osvaldo’s antics mean he no longer has a chance of landing the England forward.
28-year-old Osvaldo would prefer a return to Serie A, and is holding out in the hope Inter Milan or Juventus will come in with a late offer.
The former Roma forward has struggled to settle on the south coast since his £15million move in the summer.
He has previously complained of being homesick, and has managed just three goals in 13 games for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The Saints were quick to react to the incident last week, and have banned Osvaldo from the club for two weeks for his behaviour.
