Upton Park

A gritty display earned Newcastle a welcome point in their battle against relegation as they held West Ham to a goalless draw at Upton Park.

Neil McDonald post-match…"We thought from the replays that we saw it wasn't over the line. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. We are pleased Winston Reid got back to get it off the line and help keep a clean sheet."

Alan Pardew post-match"The players needed to show a lot of what was said this week was complete rubbish and we showed that. We had good spirit and unity and we should have had a goal, it was touch and go but it should have been given."

Good day for…Rob Elliot: Thankfully for Newcastle he was largely untested during the first half but was the reason Alan Pardew's side left east London with a point. Made a string of fine saves after the break to record a rare clean sheet and a much needed one after last weeks mauling by Liverpool.

Bad day for…Yoan Gouffran: Restored to the starting lineup after being dropped to bench last time out Gouffran was tasked with adding some flair and incision to the Magpies attack. He provided neither and missed a glorious chance to win the game.
